Someone recently asked me: What do you think you're getting from free/cheap internet that i or most of the people don't know? Well, it's difficult to answer that since most people are getting the hang of the net already. I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for exactly but here are my favorite or recently discovered sites on the net right now that most might not know about:
  • Social bookmarking
  • iJigg: something like the two above, but with music
  • Micro-blogging (you can post through SMS, too)
  • Somewhat Micro-blogging but not quite
    • Pownce (Share messages/notes, links, files, events - somewhat like an IM tool but more specialized)
    • Tumblr (Share text, photos, quotes, links, chat logs, videos and add your other feeds)
  • "TV":
    • Intenet TV
      • Joost.com
      • There's also another one but I didn't like it at all
    • Revision3: Has different kinds of shows, serving the "on-demand" generation. There are a lot of tech stuff and other kinds of shows like a cooking show with hosts that don't know how to cook
    • UndoTV: Media + Votes + Users
  • Wridea: Never forget your ideas again! :P
  • Last.fm: "Scrobble"/Log your music and get music recommendations! You can also listen to streaming audio. You can also post audio samples in your blog or other sites :D
  • Blogmusik: Music on demand: Streaming, not downloadable. The sound quality & their collection is quite good! You can also create playlists and embed players on your site.
  • ShoZu: Post photos, videos, blog entries from your phone!
  • Guru.com: Online marketplace for freelance talent
  • Ning: Create social networks for anything!
  • Google Services - A lot of people know about Google but don't really know much of what they offer:
  • Operating System (ex. Windows XP or OSX)
    • Ubuntu (most popular these days; they also have free shipping if you find the download huge)
  • Other document-related or productivity tools
    • Zoho: Online Office, word processor, calendar, presentation, etc.
    • Scribd: Share documents to the public/ view what others have shared
    • OpenOffice: Productivity suite (somewhat buggy but it's free) (download)
  • Notes/To-Do lists
  • ProfileFly: Unify your online identity, share your profile, and share links too
  • WhatTheFont: Know what font was used in an logo, website or whatnot
Other things that might fancy your attention:
  • Internet Archive: There are free downloads there, too (OpenSource Sounds)
  • WebJam: Build up pages by combining content together or writing your own (and share it with your friends if you want)
  • Spokeo: Keep track of blogs, photos, videos, music posted by your friend in some networks
  • Instructables: A How-To/DIY site
  • Vizu: Add a free polling widget on your site
  • Sonific: Put free music widgets on your site...the selection is pretty limited though
  • Orb: Access your digital media remotely
There are a lot more but here are the more interesting ones :D If you think there are others that could be added to the list, comment!
